If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat

If You Want to Walk On Water,

You Have to Get Out of the Boat

’Come!’ answered Jesus. So Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water to Jesus. (Matthew 14:29)

We all have dreams, hopes, desires. I believe God plants them in our hearts and He encourages us onward. But we have to take steps toward realizing our dreams too and sometimes this requires a leap of faith and the courage to make some changes.

For me, a step, any step, toward change is halting. I second guess myself more than I’d like to admit.

What if:
* it doesn’t work out the way I planned?
* I fail to achieve the goal I’m stepping toward?
* someone else deems me foolish…or absurd for daring to dream?
* I realize my dream only to lose my passion down the road?

Once I decide I’m going to take a step, resistance steps up to stop me.

I’m comfortable with the way things are.

Take my living room for example, I know it needs updating. (Ask my realtor!) But I like the dark green and burgundy…I like the now-gray carpet that was once off-white (a mistake the day I chose it!)…I even like the so-has-been look of my big heavy floral drapes. Wouldn’t a fresh coat of paint, gleaming wood floors, lighter neutral curtains be a nice change? Well, probably, but change makes me uneasy.

So it is with my dreams. I know I can’t realize them unless I move forward, make some changes, one (cautious) step at a time. So I’m pushing through the doubts, the fear of the unknown, the discomfort. One of the ways I did this recently was to have a blog makeover.

Like my living room, after many years, it’s time for a nice fresh look for my blog. (I hope you like it!) A lot has changed in the blogosphere…

I was very excited about this step, but making each decision along the way was just not easy for me. I agonized over color, copy, font. Since the designer had a queue of clients waiting behind me to get their blogs redone, she kept us moving forward. Otherwise, I can tell you I’d still have my old design today and I’d probably be driving the designer crazy with my indecision and uncertainty.

So there you have it…I’ve taken one step forward. And you know, one step often begets another, so I created a new Facebook Page for this blog too. I'd be honored if you'd Like me!

What’s Your Story?
Have you been dreaming lately? Any hopes, visions, plans for the days, weeks, months ahead? I’d love to hear about them and encourage you on your journey.
